Ron Sexsmith - Maybe This Christmas

It's been some time since I checked in.

But, I was sitting here this morning, listening to Christmas music.
I wanted to share this song with all of you because I think it is really beautiful.
There are two versions here. The first is Ron Sexsmith performing the song he wrote.

The second version is a guy I saw perform it on Youtube.
I thought he did such a nice job with it. So, I wanted you all to see it.

The message of the song is so pure and direct.
I guess I am posting it because I believe this is what Christmas is truly about.
I love gifts and decorations. That stuff is great.
However, I do recognize the greater meaning of the season. It is not necessarily religious, either. It is about a heightened sense of humanity that we can realize and share with each other.

Recently, I have had a rash of people tell me they hate Christmas music.
Sorta sad...but, alright.
I also hear many people say they do not like Christmas because it is too commercial.

I agree...to an extent.

Perhaps, I am just able to filter out the things I do not like about Christmas and I am just able to open myself to the beauty I see in it. I have always thought that winter was a season of imagination. When you throw the holiday season in the mix, it is like a child's dream.

To me, Christmas is a season that is for everyone. It does not matter who you are. The time between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve is a time for friends and giving. I do not think you need to give a physical gift, either.

Maybe, Christmas is about giving the gift of friendship or forgiveness to someone who needs it. What could be wrong with that?

My wish for all my friends is that they get what they want this year.
Believe me, I know many people who are struggling and suffering greatly.

I wish I could help them. But, all I can do is wish that each of them finds peace and happiness.

Enjoy the tune...

I generally keep a list of non-traditional Christmas music. Like Fairytale of New York by the Pogues and Kirsty MacCall. Maybe This Christmas is in that list - a great song.
